Drop Shapped from Finland


A glossy, silver-foiled miniature sheet on which five drop shaped or petal-shaped 1st class non-value indicator stamps were designed especially for Valentine’s Day greetings. On one stamp, the designer represents the love between two people with two swans embracing. Eternal friendship is expressed by a teddy bear hugging a heart on the next stamp. On the next one, Valentine’s Day is celebrated with a layer cake. Magical enchantment is depicted by a stamp on which the god of love Amor or Cupid is shooting an arrow. Togetherness and fun are shown on a stamp on which three friends are celebrating their friendship.

Melting Glaciers - Finlands 2 Circle Shaped Stamps

Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers. Some 40 countries will issue stamps on climate change. The common theme is Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers. The polar regions play an important role in the global climate system: changes there are reflected around the world and it is precisely where global warming is currently at its fastest and greatest extent. The international stamp collaboration is being led by Itella, the postal operator in Finland.

The Finnish joint issue on climate change is a two-stamp miniature sheet entitled Melting Glaciers designed by Saku Heinänen. The sheet depicts a Polar sea in which pieces of melting ice shelf are floating. In the middle of each stamp on the sheet is a snowflake symbol, the campaign insignia used by all the issuing countries.

World's first translucent stamp

Frosty Night won the 2008 Most Beautiful Stamp of the Year competition in Finland. The stamp designed by Nina Rintala depicts a snowflake, a star and the northern lights. It was issued on 6 November and it is believed to be the world's first translucent (transparent) stamp. Frosty Night was given 9,710 votes. In all, 53,571votes were cast in the competition.
